How to Convert a Semi Truck 7-Way Connector to Work w/a RV Style 7-Way Connector

Published 03/24/2025

Question:

Is there a converter for a 7 way electrical connector on a 5th to a 7 way connector on a semi? a double female connector? The semi and the 5th wheel have the same male connector plugs.

Hey Daryl! There isn't an off-the-shelf adapter that'll do what you're wanting to do, because the functions line up differently, but you can assemble one. You'll want to start with the Taillight Converter item # C59496, which will tap into the circuits feeding your tractor trailer's 7-pin round plug. The yellow wire taps into the feed for the left turn signal, the green into the right turn, the red into the brake, the brown into the running light circuit, and the white wire would ground to the truck's frame. The black wire connects to the positive battery terminal.

Once the item # C59496 is installed, you'll then use the item # 37185 adapter. The 4 pole from the converter would plug into the 4 pole on the adapter. Then you will ground the white wire, the black wire connects to a 12-volt power source, the blue wire is used to carry the signal from a brake controller, if the trailer has brakes, and the purple wire is for reverse lights.

Jerred, My apologies, I did poor job explaining the problem. I'm trying to find an adapter that will connect (2) male 7 wire round pin plugs together. Both the semi and the 5th wheel camper have the same plugs, I'm hoping there's a double female coupler.

@DarylJ No, there is not a adapter that will allow you to connect two 7-way male plugs together.
