Question:
Hello! I have a 2010 Subaru impreza outback sport model, hatchback, 5 speed manual transmission. Subaru is telling me the car is not made for towing and I should not install a hitch. I am moving out of state and would like to get a hitch installed so I can tow a smallish trailer. Please help!

As long as it's not a WRX STi model, we do have a hitch available for your Impreza. I'd recommend the Draw-Tite Class I receiver, part # DT24959. A ball mount is not included and you'll need the # C56111 trailer wiring harness and the # 19256 for a 1-7/8 inch or # 19258 for the 2 inch trailer ball. The trailer coupler should have the necessary ball size stamped onto it.
The hitch itself has a 2000 lb towing, 200 lb tongue weight capacity which does not necessarily mean that the vehicle is capable of towing 2000 lbs. Since the Subaru doesn't recommend towing with the vehicle and the towing capacity is therefore unknown, I'd proceed with caution if you decide to tow with the vehicle. Choose the lightest possible trailer and do everything you can to keep the weight in the trailer to a minimum.
I cannot recommend you do anything that contradicts Subaru's advice regarding towing.
