E-Bike Rack Recommendation for Prius with Curt 1-1/4 inch Hitch

Updated 02/20/2025 | Published 02/15/2025

Question:

Looking at the Saris Freedom Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4 and 2 Hitches - Frame Mount Part Number: SA4412B for installation on my 2018 Prius Prime. The car is fitted with a Curt 1.25” hitch partC11473 I have a 46 lb e-bike and would like to occasionally carry a second 35 lb mountain bike. Do you know if this combination of hitch and bike rack would work on my Prius?

Hey Diana, the Saris Freedom Bike Rack part # SA4412B that you referenced would normally have the weight capacity needed but since you have a Class I hitch on your Prius it would be limited to 35 lb per bike. This would be too low for you so a better option would be an e-bike rack designed for 1-1/4 inch hitches like the Thule Easy Fold XT part # TH903202. There aren't really any other options for e-bikes and Class I hitches. Is this something you'd consider?

I wasn’t looking to buy a rack with that price tag to fit just 2 bikes. Will have to reconsider my options. Thanks

@Diana If neither of your bikes have fenders the Thule T2 part # TH23GC might be a better option. It fits your hitch size and has a 50 lb per bike capacity. I should have thought of it earlier but I forgot it does have a slightly higher than usual weight capacity that can work for lighter e-bikes.
