How to Convert a Trailer w/ Air Brakes to Electric Brakes

Updated 10/30/2025 | Published 02/14/2025

Question:

Hi, I have a Ford 1 ton pickup. I want to pull a 25’ equipment trailer with a triple axle dual wheel. It has glad hand air brake connectors. Is there a conversion kit to either add air to my truck or a conversion for the trailer to normal electric brakes like on most light duty trailers? Thank you

Hey Ray! We're not going to have anything that will set your Ford up to run the air brakes on your trailer. We would be able to convert your trailer to electric brakes though. I would need you to pull a hub off of one of your axles and tell me the part numbers stamped into the two bearings along with your lug nut pattern, which I am assuming is 8 on 5-1/2.

If you could get this information around and comment below I would be happy to recommend some parts.

Hey Ray, were you able to pull a hub and find the bearing numbers and lug pattern on your trailer? Once you have those details, I can help narrow down the right parts for converting to electric brakes. Let me know what you find so we can get you set up.
