Updated 10/30/2025 | Published 02/10/2025

Question:

Hello, Im researching a steel wheel for my 5th wheel camper. I currently have 17.5 tires with aluminum wheels. Ive had 2 instances with cracked aluminum rims and would like to know more about steel rims.

Hey Dwight, in general steel wheels are stronger than aluminum and are preferred in rougher conditions like off-road etc. We have steel wheels that are 17.5 inch in diameter like the # 1750865SP1125 which has a weight capacity of 6,005 lb per wheel. This is a very strong wheel that would work great for you.

Hey Dwight, how did the switch to the steel wheels go on your 5th wheel camper? It’d be great to know if they’ve held up better than the aluminum ones. Your experience could help others deciding between the two materials.
