The Ford owners manual pg. 277 lists the following roof load bearing capacities: a no moonroof = 165lbs/75kg, b moonroof = 75lbs/35kg. Hello Samuel, thanks for reaching out. The total installed weight of the is 59" Long x 54" Wide Pioneer Platform # RR92AP is 61 lbs.

Its pretty typical for vehicle manufacturers to be pretty vague about their roof capacity numbers, and I especially wouldn't put it past Ford. 165 lbs is a fairly common roof capacity number that we see, and while I don't speak for Ford, my assumption is 165 lbs is the dynamic capacity. It makes sense that the moonroof would decrease that capacity too. So adding the platform to a vehicle with the moonroof really wouldn't be practical for carrying much gear. It would look good though lol but that's about it.

Is your Explorer a bare roof, or do you have the sunroof?

Thanks Jesse. Yep, unfortunately I have the moonroof affliction. I may have to stick to plane jane cross bars or try a lighter weight unit (like Inno's Shaper100).

@SamuelC I gotcha. Yes a basic roof rack with crossbars would be a better option then. For example the Yakima JetStream Roof Rack # Y42GD (for the raised rails on a 2023 Explorer) weighs about 17 lbs. Then The Inno Shaper 100 weighs about 23 lbs so that would leave you with about 35 lbs of capacity for your gear. So still not a ton of extra capacity, but way more than if we did the Rino Platform.
