Best Way To Add Roof Rack To Camper Shell

Updated 11/03/2025 | Published 01/28/2025

Question:

I’m looking to add roof racks to the canopy of my truck. I will be putting 2 80 lbs kayaks up there. They don’t need to be adjustable. Just wondering what you have that could work. Thanks

Hey Mike, thanks for reaching out. It sounds like you are wanting to add a roof rack to you camper shell, is that correct? If so, the best way to do this is with a track mount system.

Take a look at the Rhino-Rack Aero Bar Roof Rack for Camper Shells # Y02-480B. This comes with two 63" tracks that install directly to the top of the camper shell. Then you have tow 54" aero crossbars for mounting your kayak carriers and kayaks. You will want to verify the 63" tracks are the right size for your shell. The tracks are available in different lengths if needed.

The video I linked below will show you a more in-depth look at this roof rack system. Feel free to reply below and let me know if you have any questions.

Hey Mike, what ended up working with the Rhino-Rack roof rack for your camper shell? Your update could make it easier for the next person looking to carry heavier kayaks on their truck canopy.
