What System would I Need to Add a Deck to the Roof Of My 2023 Ram Promaster 3500 EXT?

I have a 2023 Promaster 3500 ext. I want to put a roof rack on top, either E/W or N/S direction, and install decking material to make a full roof sun deck to hold up to 5 or so people. What do i need? Is this possible?

Hello D,

This is a very interesting question, thanks for something outside the box. You will need to double check with Ram to see what the weight rating of your roof is, we do not recommend ever going over what the manufacturer says you can.

Your best option for what you are trying to accomplish would be the Front Runner Slimpro Van Roof Rack # FR67ZV, this system works on the 2023 Ram Promaster 3500 with the 159" wheelbase and an extra high roof. Front Runner does not advertise their weight rating and this is what they have to say about it:

FRONT RUNNER RACK KITS OFTEN HAVE A HIGHER LOAD RATING THAN THE VEHICLES THEY ARE MOUNTED TO. PLEASE REFER TO YOUR SPECIFIC VEHICLE MANUFACTURER FOR A RECOMMENDED ROOF RATING. FRONT RUNNER CANNOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR IMPROPER LOADING BEYOND THE VEHICLE MANUFACTURER'S STATED LOAD CAPACITY.

I tried to find the weight rating in the owners manual for the 2023 Ram Promaster 3500 but had 0 luck, I would reach out to where you purchased it from to find out what it is.

If you are able to get this set up, please send me in a picture, this is something I need to see. We actually have a food truck out here in Missouri where you can go to the roof to eat in their little dining area. Fingers crossed that you get good news from Dodge!

Hey D, were you able to find out the roof weight rating from Ram for your Promaster 3500? I’m curious if the Front Runner roof rack ended up working for your sun deck idea. Knowing how it turned out could help others planning a similar setup.
