Does 2013 Toyota Highlander Have OEM Brake Controller Port

Updated 01/27/2026 | Published 08/18/2024

Question:

Hi Ill be towing with a 2013 Highlander, and it already has a 7 pin round connector. I already have a Tekonsha P3 brake controller, but the vehicle doesnt have a brake controller hookup installed. Is there a plug in harness for the 2013 highlander, or do I need the wire tap harness? Thanks

Thanks for reaching out, Dave!

The 2013 Toyota Highlander doesn't have a brake controller connector under the dash so you'll have to hardwire your Prodigy P3 # 90195 pigtail wiring to the following functions:

Blue - 7-Way Output to Trailer
Black - 12V Power
White - Ground
Red - COLD Side of Stop Light Switch (only gets hot when brake pedal is pressed)

Hopefully when your 7-Way was installed there was wiring ran for the brake controller and you just need a circuit tester # PTW2992 to test for the stop light switch connection. If that wiring hasn't been ran then you just need the Curt Universal Wiring Kit # C51500 to get your brake controller hooked up to the correct connections.

Hey Dave, how did things go wiring your Prodigy P3 to the Highlander? Did the universal wiring kit and circuit tester make the job easier? Your update could make it easier for others setting up a brake controller on the same vehicle.
