What Thule Force XT Cargo Box Is The Best Fit For A 2023 Honda Pilot Elite With Factory Crossbars

Question:
I have a 2023 Honda Pilot Elite with the factory crossbars. Thule states that I need 54-3/4inch from the center of the front crossbar to the seam where the hatch and the roof meets for the Force XT XXL to clear the hatch. When I measure from the center of the front crossbar to the seam where the hatch and the roof meet, it is ~56-1/2. When I open the hatch, from the top of the open hatch roof panel to the center of the crossbar is 54-1/2, below Thules measurement of 54-3/4. When the hatch opens, it does move forward of that seam about 2inch Does this mean that the hatch will hit the box when its open?

Hello Jason, thanks for providing all of those detailed measurements. It does sound like the Thule Force XT XXL Rooftop Cargo Box # TH6359B will not allow you to full open your hatch. It will be very close, but even the 1/4" difference is enough to throw off fitment. I recommend that you go with the next size down, the 18 cubic foot Thule Motion XT Rooftop Cargo Box # TH629806. This box requires 51-1/2" between the front crossbar and the line where the roof and the hatch meet, leaving you with a solid amount of cargo space, and with plenty of room to open your hatch.

Hey Jason, how did things work out with the Thule Motion XT cargo box on your Pilot? Did the hatch clear the box the way you needed? Your update could make it easier for others setting up a similar roof rack.
