Question:
I have one like this on my trailer. How can I test it to see if it needs replaced? My truck tells me that trailer battery isn’t charging. I’ve checked power and all seems ok but still get message.

Hey Eric, so the trailer breakaway battery charger kit part # 20011 that you referenced was not designed to integrate into the dash display of your truck. So what that means is that the error code you are seeing probably means there's A. nothing wrong and its just giving a false info as it's not anticipating the charger kit, or B. since it's not detecting a trailer connection it's not allowing the 12 volt charge circuit to be active.
To test this use a circuit tester like the part # PTW2993 to test the wire that runs to the charger from your 7-way and also on the output side of the charger that runs to the battery. If the circuit is active you are good. If not, then you'd probably need to remove the charger and just let the circuit charge the battery directly which it will do just fine.

Well it’s work with my truck for two and a half years with no warning coming on so obviously something has changed. My question was how to test the charger that is already on the trailer?
