Can Advent Air Unit Install on Reinforced Roof

Updated 07/19/2024 | Published 07/08/2024

Question:

Hi, Edwin from Iowa here. I have a pop-up camper tent with a Dometic Duotherm AC that is not working. I have replaced both capacitors and while the compressor gets hot there is no evidence of cooling. Your Advent Air RV Air Conditioner - 13,500 Btu - White seems to be a suitable replacement, however I have two questions. 1 Your specification states for roofs 2-1/2 to 5 in thick. My camper roof is 1 in thick but has two metal reinforcing bars to support the weight of the AC. Is that acceptable? 2 Your unit comes without the starting capacitor. Would the new standard start capacitor I bought to try to get the Dometic unit working be suitable?

Hey Edwin, so since you would be replacing a Dometic Duotherm that Advent Air kit that would make the most sense would be the part # ACDOM135 which was designed for replacing Dometic units so the install would be simpler.

This will work great with your current roof reinforcement and would probably also work with your capacitor but it comes with it's own so you may as well use that.

Thank you for your very helpful comments. The part number you reference is flagged as being in stock but its expected delivery date is given as not until September. I see the AC unit on its own, without the start capacitor can be delivered in about a week. Have you any comment on those timings?

@EdwinM Our systems say we have one of the black versions of the ac kit part # ACDOM150B we can ship from here in Wentzille. That would probably be what I would go with.
