Replacement Brake Controller for a Hopkins Towing Solutions Brake-Force Brake Controller

Updated 07/10/2024 | Published 07/02/2024

Question:

I have a Hopkins Towing Solutions Brake-Force Brake Control box on my 2007 Dodge Ram 1500. It has always worked great but yesterday I noticed when I was applying brakes it would go from orange to red dot I’m not exactly sure what’s going on. I’ve never had trouble before. Feel the breeds engage slightly for just a few seconds and then I can feel it let go any ideas?

Thanks for the pictures! I checked with Hopkins and it sounds like your Brake-Force brake controller is going out. The red light shows that all of your connections are good so it's not a wiring issue. The intensity of the light going away means the controller isn't sending enough signal to the brakes.

If you want to replace it with a comparable time delayed brake controller, you can use the Tekonsha POD Trailer Brake Controller w/ Plug-In Harness item # TK56ER.

I recommend replacing it with a proportional controller like the Tekonsha Voyager item # 39510 you were looking at. This brake controller stops your trailer with the same amount of force you apply your brakes with. This happens instantly and is the safest way, and easiest on equipment, to slow or stop your trailer and truck
