Question:
Hello, I would like to know how heavy and how difficult it would be to and remove the Reese M5 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch for Max Duty Underbed Mounting System - Single Jaw - 14,000 lbs in my 2015 Silverado 2500 HD. I have no experience with a Fifth Wheel hitch, but am considering it after 40+ years of conventional towing. I use the truck bed so much that being able to remove and reinstall the hitch assembly will be important for me. Thank you kindly.

Hello Robert,
Removing the Reese M5 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch for Max Duty Underbed Mounting System # RP72VR would be a pain as it is heavy and there isn't a great way to disassemble it. There also isn't a way to mount this hitch in your 2015 Chevy Silverado 2500 as it fits the Max Duty system which is for Fords. That said, what you can do if you want to tow a 5th wheel is install a gooseneck hitch and then an adapter which works as a 5th wheel hitch.
So what I'd do with your '15 Silverado 2500 is install the Curt EZr Double Lock Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch # C611-624. I'd then pair that with the Demco Recon Gooseneck-to-5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter # DM8550045.
The gooseneck hitch ball can be stored upside down, and the Recon can be removed a piece at a time - first the head then the base, which makes it much simpler to remove.

Hi Kyle, Thank you for the reply. I had not realized we might be able to use a Gooseneck Hitch as a mount. My truck was already equipped with a B&W Gooseneck Hitch assembly when I bought it. Will the Demco Recon Gooseneck-to-5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Adapter # DM8550045 work with it? Thanks much, Bob
