How Much is 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 5-3/4' Bed Reduced with Folding Tonneau Cover Folded Up

When the quad fold tonneau cover is open all the way and folded against the rear glass of the truck how thick is it? We are trying to determine if we can use a tonneau cover and still load our golf cart in the bed of the truck. Also, can the tonneau cover be removed and leave the frame/rails attached to the truck?

Thanks for reaching out about the Leer Hard Tonneau Cover - Quad Fold # LE97FR for your 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 with a 5-3/4' bed!
I reached out to my contact at Leer who said that the panels won't take up any bed space when folded up which doesn't make sense because there is a small front panel that the folded up panels sit on in that "opened" position.
Because of this I reached out to BAK about their BAKFlip MX4 Hard Tonneau Cover # BAK52FR and my contact said that the panels are going to reduce the length of your bed somewhere in the range of 9" - 12". They weren't able to give me an exact amount but at least they were able to give me a range instead of saying "nothing".
I really like the MX4 over the Leer cover because I was not only able to get an answer from them, but to open up the tonneau cover there is a single piece to pull down and open up the cover as opposed to having to pinch 2 pieces together to open up the Leer. The only other difference is that the BAK is a tri-fold as opposed to the quad-fold Leer that has the extra panel.
