Class II Accessories Will Not Fit in a Class I Trailer Hitch on a 2012 Ford Fusion

bike rack will not go in far enough to put hitch pin in because of the tab inside the receiver

You can only use Class I compatible bike racks with a Class I trailer hitch like # 24865. There is nothing wrong with the hitch or the bike rack in case you were worried about that. The tab in the receiver is a safety precaution so users will not put in Class II accessories that could potentially overload the hitch and damage the vehicle. We have an image on the product page for all Class I hitches that have the tab pointing it out. I have included here as well.

Class I trailer hitches are also limited to 2 bikes maximum. For a Class I compatible bike rack that holds 2 bikes I recommend the Swagman Titan, # S63400. This rack also has a rise in the shank for better ground clearance. I have included a link to a video showing the rack on a 2012 Ford Fusion for you.
