How Close Should Thule Hullavator Pro Kayak Carrier Be
Published 04/05/2022 >
Question:
I have brought two Hullavators and mounted them on two pro bars. I’m wondering what the distance between the kayaks should be. At the moment I was trying to spread the load but they are too far apart for one person to reach and it means that they are fitting the curved section of the kayak. This is causing the Hullavators to twist slightly so I haven’t used them yet. What distance apart should the bars be placed? I have marked in red in the photo showing where the only other fixing point is on the van.

The minimum crossbar spread for the Thule Hullavator Pro Kayak Carrier and Lift Assist with Tie-Downs # TH898 is 24" - meaning from one point on the front crossbar to the same point on the crossbar has to measure at least 24" for the Hullavator to work properly. If that middle point you highlighted in your photo enables you to maintain the 24" spread then I would definitely move the crossbars - especially if they are spread out too far for you to reach.
I would also flip your kayak over when you load it as well since this is designed for your kayak to be right side up. This might help with everything fitting properly too.
