Where To Get 12 Volt Power When Installing 7-Way On 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

Published 02/07/2022

Question:

I have a 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. I’m installing a 7-pin wiring harness. What is generally a good fuse to use for the 12v trailer power circuit? I want something that doesn’t draw power when my vehicle is turned off.

If you're installing a 7-way trailer connector on a 2007 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited without factory tow package you'll need to start with the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part # 118416. This can then be converted into a 7-way using the 4 to 7-Way with 4-Way Adapter part # ETBC7. The black wire on the adapter will need to be run directly to the battery for power. That said, unless you have the trailer plugged in it won't pull power while the vehicle is off. The battery charge line circuit can draw up to 40 amps so you can't just tap into an existing circuit as you'll fry it. If you want the circuit to be keyed (activated with ignition) you can install the Battery Isolator Solenoid part # PK5231201 inline.
