Because you have a 5-1/2 foot bed on your 2009 Ford F-150 you would have to use a Sidewinder to be able to make tight turns. And, depending on the width of the trailer, you still might not be able to completely clear the truck when turning. To determine all of this you will have to do some measuring and a bit of math.

However, we will first need to determine if there is a Sidewinder that will fit. I will need to know the manufacturer and model number of the pin box on the trailer. This information should be on a sticker or plate on the pin box. Then you can use the information at the end of the FAQ article I've linked on Sidewinders to determine if there is a fit.

If there is one that will fit we can start with the measurements. Once installed the center of the 5th wheel hitch jaws will be approximately 1-1/2 inches forward of the center line of the rear axle. Measure from that point to the back of the truck cab. Then add 22 inches for the length of the Sidewinder.

The measurement that you get plus 22 inches needs to be at least 4 inches MORE than half the width of the 5th wheel trailer. If you do the math and there is a Sidewinder that fits and you have enough clearance then you can safely tow a 5th wheel trailer with the truck.

For your F-150 you can use installation kit # RP50081-58. I have linked instructions and a video for you. Then you will need a fixed 5th wheel hitch. I have linked the 5th wheel hitch main page for you to see the options.
