Installation of the Positive Connection from Wiring Harness To Battery on My 2005 Dodge Magnum

Ive recently purchased the above noted product and installed it in my 2005 Dodge Magnum. After hooking up my trailer there is seemingly no power going to the trailer at all. I note in the instruction manual it shows the positive power lead being connected to the positive terminal adjacent to the fuse box under the hood. Ive connected my positive lead directly to the positive terminal at the battery in the rear hatch of the vehicle. Is this my problem and, if so, will you please explain why?

If you installed the power line from the converter to the battery you should have power to the trailer lights. The terminal under the hood is fused so it would provide an extra layer of protection, but is not necessary as long as the inline fuse is used. If all the other wiring is connected properly to the connection points behind the taillights. You may have a bad ground somewhere or the fuse may be bad if you did not remove it before installing the power wire.

If you did not install the inline fuse before connecting to the battery you may have shorted the converter and will need to test the wiring on both sides of the converter with a circuit tester, item # 3808 if you need one, to verify the correct function of the converter.

If the harness is functioning correctly at the back of the vehicle then the problem is on the trailer side.
