I need to tow a trailer with my 2021 Ram 1500 but it did not come with a hitch or anything. The trailer has brakes. What do I need?

The trailer hitch I recommend for a 2021 Ram 1500 is the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # DT37MR which offers an easy bolt-on fit and has a towing capacity up to 6,000 lbs. It also comes with a cap to fill the hitch ball hole in the bumper which is not something the other options offer. In regards to wiring, the 7- and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Socket part # HM40975 is our best option as the plug will fit the factory cutout in the bumper. The included bracket will be discarded.
For a trailer brake controller, it's really hard to beat the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90195 with the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers part # 3024-P. This is arguably the best controller on the market with a longstanding reputation. It has settings for multiple trailers, integrated diagnostics, and a lifetime warranty. It will plug into a port in the dash using the above harness.
