Your staff previously said that the motion would fit my truck, however, my skis are 176 cm and it appears that they are too long for the box. The larger version looks like it has the appropriate length for my skis but will it still fit my xterra? Are ther other options that I should be looking at?

The Thule Motion 18 cargo box, # TH629806, will fit the factory roof rack on your 2012 Nissan Xterra. However, you will not be able to open the rear hatch without interfering with the box. The Motion 16 # TH629706 is the longest box you could install without interference from the hatch.
You might be interested in a ski carrier like the Thule SnowPack Slide-Out Ski and Snowboard Carrier # TH7325. It will fit your roof rack and you can lock the skis to the rack to deter theft. The carrier slides out for easier loading and unloading. I have included a link to a video review for you.
