Question:
Hi, I am looking to replace the trailer wiring 7 pin connector on my 2014 Salem Hemisphere 282 RK pull behind travel trailer. I am driving a 2016 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel with integrated break controller and 7 pin plug in. Ive been told there are different 7 pin wiring configurations for some trailers and I am wondering if this oneHopkins 7-Way RV Style Connector w/ Molded Cable and LED Test Lights - Trailer End - 8foot Long Item # HM20087 is the correct one? Thank you

Expert Reply:
The pin-out for a 7-way trailer connector is pretty consistent. Unless the connector was wired incorrectly, it should be wired as shown in the provided photo showing the correct pin-out.
What CAN vary is the wire color codes, which are also shown in the photo. The # H20046 pigtail would work just fine for you, just be sure to follow the wire color code shown on the linked product page.
I'd also recommend a junction box like part # 3375601100. A junction box provides a centralized place to make all your wiring connections. A junction box makes for a neat, professional looking installation and will keep all your wiring connections protected from the elements.
I've linked to an installation video that you might find helpful.
