Troubleshooting Trailer Brake Lights Not Working When Connected To 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

Question:

I have a 2000 chevy silverado and it doesnt have the factory trailer wiring harness. A friend of mine found and labeled the wires for me and I connected them and I have everything but brake lights and only the left blinks with the hazzard lights on

On your 2000 Chevrolet Silverado the left and right brake signal wire is separate from your turn signal wires. To connect this style of vehicle wiring to a trailer wiring connector you will need to use a 3-wire to 2-wire connector like the Hopkins Tail Light Converter - LED Compatible # HM48847.

The brake wire will get connected to the red wire, the green wire will get connected to the passenger side turn signal, and the yellow wire will get connected to the driver side turn signal wire. Once this is done the green wire will get connected to the passenger side turn signal of your trailer connector and the yellow wire will get connected to the driver side turn signal on the trailer connector.

Without this converter you will not have brake lights.

Now in regards to the hazard lights, they are just activating your turn signals at the same time. Given that your turn signals work you should have working hazard lights so I would just double check that all of the connectors are secured.
