The wind noise will be noticeable if you install a roof rack to support a spare tire. To help reduce some of the wind noise, I would recommend choosing a roof rack with elliptical crossbars like the Rhino-Rack ROC 25 Roof Rack, # RR86SR for Extended Cab models or # RR66SR for crew cab models.
If you have a regular cab model, then you can use the Thule Travers Roof Rack which consists of the 60 inch WingBar Crossbars, # TH711500 in silver or # TH711520 in black, Rapid Traverse Foot Pack, # TH480R, and the Fit Kit, # THKIT1532.
The aero crossbars create less drag and wind noise than the Yakima round or Thule square SquareBars. Before you load your spare tire or any other cargo on a roof rack on your truck, I recommend checking your owners manual or with a local Chevrolet dealer to find the weight capacity of your roof. You should not exceed the lowest rated component between the roof rack and your vehicle roof when loading cargo.
