Question:
Why wont this fit a 73 CJ-5 V-8? other hitches go for all cj5 no matter what year they are. Thanks, Steve

The reason the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 13412 you were looking at will not fit a 1973 Jeep CJ-5 is due to it being designed for the 1976 - 1983 CJ-5.
In 1976 Jeep changed the frame from a partially open design to a full boxed frame which is why this hitch does not fit the pre 1976 models.
At this time there is not a custom fit trailer hitch receiver for your 1973 Jeep CJ-5 but it may be possible to install a universal trailer hitch receiver like the Draw-Tite # 41990-07.
The # 41990-07 fits vehicle frames that are up to 44" wide and will need to be welded to the frame of your Jeep by a qualified welder.
