Question:

Hi, Im confused about which wiring kit I need. I have a 2012 CX9 AWD that I installed a Curt class 3 receiver for a cargo carrier. I would like to install the wiring to tow a small utility trailer. What wiring kit do I need? What is the difference between with factory towing or without?

Some vehicles are partially prewired at the factory for the trailer connector, but the 2012 Mazda CX-9 didn't have that provision. I'd recommend going with the Tekonsha T-One connector, part # 118520 as their hitch wiring harnesses seem to be a bit more reliable in the long term.

If you haven't chosen a hitch yet, I'd recommend the Curt Class III, part # 13575.
