Is CargoSmart Rooftop Cargo Bag a Good Choice to Attach to Roof Rack

Updated 09/15/2025 | Published 04/24/2021

Question:

I already have purchased from you the MaxxTow Cargo Bag for my Curt Hitch Mounted Cargo Tray for my permanent move out of state. With this small car, I was thinking about purchasing this cartop bag to place on my Chevy Trax roof racks to add even more cubic feet of storage for my upcoming trip. Thanks so much!

Thanks for the purchase of the bag, and for your Trax with a roof rack, the CargoSmart rooftop bag you mentioned would be a really good way to get a quite a bit of added space for storage:

- CargoSmart Soft-Sided Car Top Carrier # CS94FR

I really like this bag because it gives you a lot of added space - 15 cubic feet - but is also highly economical so for more infrequent use like with a move or maybe an occasional camping trip, the CargoSmart offers the best value. It will attach right to either a roof rack or side rails so a cargo basket isn't necessary, though I do recommend adding some protection for your roof, the Non-Skid Roof Protection Pad # RL100650.

While not absolutely necessary for use with the cargo bag, it is a nice way to add some protection for your roof.

@FrankH We no longer carry Non-Skid Roof ProtectionPad # RL100650. That's why it didn't come up when you searched for. I do not have an alternative product to recommend either.
