Recommended Replacement Front Coil Springs for 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 With Plow

Question:

Good morning! I have a Ram 2500 4x4 it’s been plowing and towing for me for nearly twenty years. Between the weight of the 9 foot western pro Plow and the snow mud and dirt that build up on the plow this plow can scale in excess of 1200 pounds. It has been fine thru the years due to the 2000 pounds of ballast in the rear of the vehicle. However due to spring sag in The rear and a common hitch weight that can exceed 3000 pounds sometimes 4000. I installed a set of airlift which can handle 7500 pounds. I ordered this product from you guys and it has been exceptional. Here’s the problem even at a low pressure there will be little give with the ballast and I know I will be way to nose down. What is your best solution. 5000 lb coils? I realize they might be stiff when plow isn’t hanging on it but I don’t think the softer more OE. Replacement will do me any good. Thoughts? The pickup has been known to accidentally get loads of 9.23 tons. Bags are good to go. The plows are 71/2 foot western standard plow that doesn’t really move the front end, the other 9 footer smashes it to within 1-2 inches of the bump stops without the ballast. This year the ballast will not help as much with the bags on. I’m thinking the 5000 each coils? Thanks in advance for your reply and all of your A+ service.

A 5000 lb capacity replacement coil spring like # SSC-23 would be best for a vehicle that has a plow permanently installed, as the ride would be very harsh once the plow is removed, so I'm not sure if you'd be happy with the ride quality if you went that route.

Instead, I'd recommend the # SSC-22 which has a capacity of 2610 lbs and would provide about 2 inches of lift. I spoke with my contact at SuperSprings about how you use your truck, and they agree that the # SSC-22 would be your best solution.
