Updated 01/19/2021 | Published 01/16/2021

Question:

I have a 2004 dodge ram 1500 5.7L Hemi and I have a 2019 20ft glacier fishouse RV edition and it weighs 7000lbs. Im looking at the best way to eliminate the sag in the rear end of the truck. Either weight distribution hitch or airbags. Thanks

Expert Reply:

The best and safest way to eliminate sag at the rear of a truck when towing a trailer is with a weight distribution system as not only does it get rid of the sag but in doing so it improves handling and braking since it moves some of the tongue weight from the trailer up to the front axle of the tow vehicle which is responsible for the majority of the braking and obviously turning.

For a trailer that weighs 7,000 lbs the best weight distribution system is the Reese Strait Line part # RP66084 which has a tongue weight range of between 600-1,200 lbs and features best sway control at stopping sway before it starts.

For a 2 inch ball you would want part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball # 19286.
