how would you compare this cover to the extang exceed. I have a 2014 Silverado short bed

The BAKFlip MX4 Hard Tonneau Cover part # BAK48120 and Extang Xceed Hard Tonneau Cover part # EX85445 are both great options for a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with 5-1/2' bed. The Xceed is a quad fold whereas the MX4 is a tri fold. The extra fold means each part is lighter. This is the most notable feature but there are also improvements to the Xceed in regards to durability (enduracoat), water management, and the latch mechanism. I recommend the Xceed because of the added features and design improvements.
