My Tail Lights are not Working on my Trailer I'm using the Curt Harness on my 2014 Acura RDX

Updated 11/03/2020 | Published 10/31/2020

Question:

I have a Curt system with a 4-pin flat connector on a 2014 Acura RDX. The brake lights and turn signals work fine. The tail lights and markers do not work at all. Without the trailer connected, the voltage on the brown wire is -2.08 volts and does not change with the car lights on or off. The voltages on the green and yellow wires work as expected for brake pedal. What do you suggest?

You've done a great job troubleshooting. Start by checking the connector from the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part # 118569 or the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector part # 56008 that controls the running light signal.

This will be the brown as you said earlier. Un plug it and check the pins inside it may be that one of them bent the wrong direction and is not giving the appropriate signal to the converter box.

If this all checks out and is in good shape it is likely that the converter has failed and will need to be replaced. This is very rare to see this on a Tekonsha harness and a little more common on the Curt so check out the plugs on the converter and on the vehicle to ensure that is not the issue.

I have linked a video showing the installation process just in case you wanted to take a quick look as a refresher on getting to the plug.
