Replacement Reese Sidewinder for MORryde SPB72-1621LD Pin Box

Updated 09/03/2020 | Published 09/01/2020

Question:

I have a 2016 ford f-250 4x4 6 foot 8 inch bed and a 2020 forest river artic wolf 321bh that has a morryde spb72-1621ld kingpin. Hitch is a b&w companion for the turnover ball. When turning the pin box will hit the inside bed rails. Is there a shorter king pin to work with my setup to allow me to make sharper turns without the pin box damaging my truck and without voiding my trailer frames warranty? I like the ideal of the goosebox but what Ive read is its the same 17-3/4 inch from center of ball to first hole in pin box. From center of gooseneck ball to bed rail is 31-1/2 inch and 90°.

There is only one option to replace your MORryde SPB72-1621LD that I know will ensure your trailer won't hit your 2016 Ford F-250's bed rails, which is with a rotating pin box that moves the pivot point back 22 inches to the turret as opposed to the hitch. And to replace your MORryde SPB72-1621LD pin box you will need the Reese Sidewinder 5th Wheel King Pin # RP34FR.

There is a catch though, in that the B&W Companion, when attached to the gooseneck, is not compatible with a rotating pin box. So that means a new 5th wheel hitch and base rails, which I know is not optimal, but you can at least offset some of the cost by selling the Companion.

So you'd need new base rails and a 5th wheel hitch that is compatible with a Sidewinder. Since you are familiar with and know the quality of the B&W brand, there is a great option that I recommend going with, the B&W Patriot. To install this hitch you will need base rails, and the option that won't require drilling into your F-250's frame is the B&W Custom Installation Kit with Base Rails for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # BWRVK2401.

Then for the hitch you can use the B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - 16,000 lbs # BWRVK3200 or 18,000 lbs # BWRVK3255.

Then for a wedge you will need the Sidewinder Wedge Kit # RP74FR.

So while I realize this isn't the simple 1-for-1 pin box swap you were seeking, this is the only and best option that we know will remedy your trailer from hitting the sides of your 2016 Ford F-250. I have added links to some video reviews down below to check out as well if you'd like.
