Carrying The Rhino-Rack Rooftop Cargo Bag RRLB500 On Top Of Diamonback SE Bed Cover

Question:
I know that the Rhino-Rack Luggage Bags are typically used with a roof rack. However, I have a Diamondback SE bed cover on the back of my pickup. As the bed cover has 2 hinged panels that open up, I do not want to add a rack on top of it as this bag will only be used a few times a year. Is there any reason that the Rhino-Rack Bag cannot just set on top of the bed cover which supports 400 lbs? As shown in the picture, there are tie-downs cleats on the 4 outside corners of the bed cover that could be used to strap the Rhino-Rack Bag in place. If necessary, I could use a protection pad # RL100650 under the bag to protect the bottom of the bag from the exposed hinges.

Expert Reply:
The Rhino-Rack Rooftop Cargo Bag # RRLB500 is made for a roof basket. Having the sides of the basket wrap around the bag along with straps will make for a very sturdy fit. There is a bunch of wild set ups I see going down the road, some more safe than others. Having the Cargo Bag sit up on top of your Diamondback SE bed cover will not push the cover over it's weight capacity so your good there. My concern would be that the bag will slide forward, side to side, or back when your stopping, turning or hitting the gas.
This isn't the safest set up, but if you were to decide to do it, I want to make sure you have take all the safety precautions possible. The non-skid Roof Pad # RL100650 is a start. I would also like to see the Curt Cargo Net # C18200 on there too. This will help hold down the whole bag, but I would also recommend putting some ratchet straps # ETBMB-05852 on there to really secure the bag down properly.
If you were to go this route, this would be the safest way to do so and that's the goal!
I've included a video of me using the Curt Cargo Net if you wanted to take a look!
