Will Bike Rack Block License Plate and Cause Legal Issues

Updated 07/17/2020 | Published 07/16/2020

Question:

Will I get pulled over or get a ticket because this is covering my rear license plate? I will be traveling from Florida to NY and will be going through multiple states and jurisdictions. Also, are you sure this is sturdy? It seems that only two straps which hook into the top portion of the hatch are bearing all the weight. Is there any chance of this falling off or becoming unstable during our long road trip?

This is a great question but the short answer is that no, you would not get pulled over for having a bike rack obstruct the view of your license plate with the Hollywood Racks Over the Top part # HRF2-3 installed. Technically an officer could give you a hard time but in reality they don't seem to ever care about this type of thing. We sell a TON of bike racks and we've yet to receive feedback that a blocked license plate got them into trouble. Most of the time the plate is still reasonably visible as well like what you see in the attached picture.

This is one of the more stable trunk racks too. If you installed it properly and checked on it when making stops for gas you wouldn't have anything to worry about. I attached an install video for more info as well.
