Question:
2019 Toyota Tacoma. My blue electric brake wire doesn’t have any power at the 7 way plug. The vehicle doesn’t have a tow package and the blue wire isn’t connected to anything under the dash. I have a Curt Echo Bluetooth brake controller but it will not activate the electric brakes because of the wire not having any power. Is there a way to add some power to the blue wire whenever the brake pedal is pressed so the controller will see that the brake pedal is being pressed and active the trailer brakes?

Expert Reply:
The Curt Echo part # C51180 does not require any signal from the brake output signal on the truck. You simply need to have 12 volt power on the accessory circuit of the truck. If the Echo is not coming on you need to check the fuse panel and make sure that you have a fuse in the trailer accessory position. This will send power to the 7-way plug and allow the Echo to come on and operate properly.
