Question:
we just purchased a 2016 transit connect passenger wagon. we are looking at adding a hitch, wiring loom and the addition of trailer brakes for a small trailer we have. the controller does not have to be heavy duty, but does have to have the round plug by the bumper. what would you recommend?

We can definitely help get your 2016 Ford Transit Connect setup to tow a trailer. The first thing you need is a trailer hitch, which for that the Draw Tite part # 75852 is a really great option with plenty of towing capacity that also installs easily.
You will need to start with a 4-way (if you do not have one). For that you would want the # 118613 which installs easily and is very reliable.
From there you would need to convert the 4-way to a 7-way so that you can install the brake controller. For that you will want the Brake Controller Install Kit and 7-Way Adapter part # ETBC7. I attached installation instructions and an install video for this product as well.
For a brake controller the Brake EVN # TK63VR is a really great option. You get the proportional performance and reliability of the more expensive controllers at a much better price.
I also attached a help article on adding brakes to a trailer axle for you to check out as well.
