Question:

Hello, We have a 2020 Outback Limited. We had a 2014 Outback with a yakima system on it that allowed us to expand the crossbars beyond the width of the roof. We are not impressed with he factory roof rack as only one side is actually secured in with a screw, the other side is a plastic type catch. The crossbars are meant to be stored under the side rails. Is there a Thule crossbar that we could use that would allow expansion past the width of the roof? We would like to use our two lockaway kayak carriers. When I entered our info on your sight the only bars listed for the 202 had a 130 pd weight limit also, that is less than the factory rating?? Thanks for your help.

For your 2020 Subaru Outback limited with factory side rails, you can use the Curt # C18118 rated for up to 150 lbs or the Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack - Aero Crossbars # MPG216 rated for up to 165 lbs. There is not currently a Thule roof rack fit for the raised rails on your vehicle.

If you have flush mounted rails on your Outback, then there is a Thule option. My recommendation because it is the newer system is the Thule Evo Raised Rail Feet for Thule Crossbars # TH710401 and then the WingBar crossbars # TH711220. This is restricted to 130 lbs capacity according to the manufacturer when used on your vehicle. I also recommend adding locks # TH450400 to secure your investment.
