Does B and W Locking Hitch Pin # BWTS51235 Have a Weight Capacity
Updated 05/06/2020 | Published 05/04/2020 >
Question:
No where in the description is there a tow rating of the pin. Is it class v? I will be towing 10,000 lbs. Also the description says stainless steel. Stainless steel is great for corrosion but has this pin cracked which stainless steel is known to do. Carbon steel on the other hand does not crack but corrodes. Have there ever been complaints of a stainless steel pin cracking?

Hitch pins like the B and W part # BW74FR don't have weight capacities listed typically but this was designed for Class V hitches like yours and easily would be able to tow a 10,000 lb trailer. The reason they don't have capacities is that they don't usually bare the weight of the trailer like you might think. The tongue weight of the trailer puts so much vertical pressure in the hitch tube that the ball mount is held in place by that. This is why the companies don't like to give capacities for the pins. Typically they'll say that you'll be fine as long as you don't exceed capacity of hitch and vehicle.
We have had great luck with stainless steel pins. We haven't had any complaints of any of them cracking.
