Question:
Hi there, I want to add extra backup lighting to my 2018 F-150 for launching my boat and I would like to add a weatherproof bumper switch to operate them independent from my reverse lights. The LEDs I have draw 1.42 amps each, could I tie into my 12v auxiliary power wire in my 7 way trailer hookup ? Thank you for taking the time to respond.

Yes you can absolutely tie into that 12 Volt power coming from your 7-pole trailer connector. As long as you aren't drawing a bunch of power through it for other uses they are generally rated up to 30 Amps. You will need to supply power to it in two ways if you want it to work by a switch and when you shift into reverse. For this make sure you put your switch on your power wire side instead of the normal ground side and connect the reverse wire in after the switch. This will allow yo to feed it power with the reverse circuit but also give you the ability to switch it on and of manually.
A good switch would be the Pollak Light-Duty Toggle Switch - On-Off - 12 Volt - 10 Amp - 6" Wire Leads part # PK34513 I like this switch because it doesn't have the exposed contacts coming off of it like standard toggles do. They are contained inside of the body preventing the standard corrosion we see on others. Combine this with the Pollak Toggle Switch Rubber Boot -15/32"-32 Thread part # PK25370 and you will have a very weather resistant way to get the lighting you want. Happy Fishing!
