Question:

I bought the Tekonsha harness on advice but now realize its installation is more difficult due to having to run a wire to the battery and the Curt does not. Am I correct??

You're correct, the Curt wiring harness for your 2015 Mazda CX-5, part # C56011, does not have a power wire that connects to the vehicle battery like the Tekonsha, part # 118563.

In most cases I'd recommend the Tekonsha even though the install is more involved. Most Tekonsha wiring harnesses have a converter box that mounts to the vehicle with a screw that keeps it much more secure than the double sided tape that Curt commonly uses. In this case, both harnesses use tape so I'd go ahead with the Curt since the converter installs the same and you don't need to connect the power wire to the battery.
