Trailer Lights Do Not Turn On but Wiring Harness on 2006 Dodge Magnum Shows Power

I installed this 4 pin wiring harness and cannot get it to work with my trailer. I have installed many wiring kits and I am certain I have made the proper connections. My connection is also direct to the battery in the rear. The fuse is in line and not tripped. I have used a tester to determine I am reading power at the pins of the connector. What could be wrong?

Sounds like the wiring on the 2006 Dodge Magnum is working since you have tested it. But, make sure that the main ground for the converter is attached to a bare metal surface. Moving the ground might help as well. Sometimes, when there is very little load on a system with a bad ground, like using a tester, the problem will not show up until there is more power draw. I also recommend trying out the trailer on another vehicle if possible.

After checking that, that leaves the trailer. Most likely it is a bad ground. Check the trailer side connector for corrosion and clean it out. Next, check the main ground on the trailer. It needs to be attached to a clean and corrosion free bare metal surface.

Then check the lights. They will also need to be grounded to bare metal surfaces. You can also trace the wiring and check for any nicks with exposed wire that may be touching the metal of the frame.

It is possible, though not likely, that the 4-Way on the trailer is configured differently than the 4-Way from harness # 118402. You will need to trace the trailer side wires for function because you cannot go by color. On the vehicle side, the white wire is ground, the green wire is right turn and brake, the yellow is left turn and brake and brown is running lights. Make sure the trailer side 4-Way mates up properly.

It is also possible that if the trailer has a lot of lights on it that it is too much draw on the system. The converter is rated for Max. stop/turn light: 1 per side (2.1 amps) and Max. tail lights: (5.6 amps).
