Parts Needed to Install 6-Pole Connector on 2019 Ford Escape to Charge Trailer Battery

Published 01/30/2020

Question:

This has a 4 wire connector. My little trailer has a a six pole round connector I would like to use. Is this the right harness for me and what parts should I get for the car mounted socket? All so is it possible to easily provide house 12vt power to the trailer? This is not essential but could charge my trailer battery as I drive. Thanks

Yes, the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118802 is the correct trailer harness for your 2019 Ford Escape without a factory tow package.

To convert this 4-Pole connector to a 4 and 6-Way round connector, I recommend wiring adapter # 37175. This way, you're not losing the standard 4-Pole plug, which may come in handy in the future. The two additional pins are for trailer brakes and 12V power.

To wire the center pole on your vehicles 6-Way connector to provide a maintenance charge to the trailer battery while driving, run a length of 10 gauge wire, # 10-1-1, with an inline 40 amp circuit breaker, # PK54540, from the center pole of the 6-Way vehicle connector to the positive side of your vehicles battery.

If your trailer is equipped with electric brakes, you'll also need to wire the pin at the 11 o'clock position to a brake controller, like the Brake EVN # TK63VR with pigtail # 20127 in line with a 30 amp circuit breaker. For this application, I recommend using our # ETBC6 kit instead, which includes the 6 and 4-Way adapter, all the wiring, circuit breakers, and absolutely everything you need to install a fully functional 6-Way on your Escape.

I attached a couple helpful wiring articles for you at the bottom of the page as well.
