Question:
Good Afternoon, My question is regarding whether I need a WD Hitch for my Basecamp? I have been on many forums for Airstream regarding this issue and cannot get a definitive answer. Some say the Basecamp X is not compatible with a WD Hitch, others have recommendations for hitches. It leaves me more confused not less. I am hoping you can help me clear this up and recommend a hitch. Thanks for your time.

Yes, you can use a weight distribution system on the Airstream Basecamp X and I do recommend this if the loaded weight of the trailer will be over half of that of the vehicle which is the general rule we use. I believe the compatibility issues you were seeing has to do with the short tongue and interference from the propane tank cover but I have a way around this.
I recommend the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution System part # FA92-00-0600 with the 2" Hitch Ball part # EQ91-00-6080. The Fastway e2 is an excellent option and it has integrated sway control. In order to use this or any system for that matter on your trailer with a short frame you can either trim the propane tank cover which is what I recommend or weld the outside link plate to the frame which you can see in the attached photo.
