Can you drive with the panel closest to the tailgate open

The rear panel by itself cannot be left open on the BAKFlip F1 Hard Tonneau Cover # BAK72602 during travel. There isn't anything to keep just this panel locked into place when it's folded over and in the open position.
The BAKFlip F1 Cover can be left completely open and flipped up against the cab by using the prop rods or the rear 3 panels can be left open using the integrated buckle system. Either option will let you transport larger items that don't fit beneath the tonneau cover.
