Why is the Hollywood Express 3 not suitable for a 2014 Hyundai Accent?

Question:

I know the installation directions begin with placing the bottom of the bike rack against the lip of the bumper by the trunk. I saw how this resulted in the rack tipping slightly toward the ground. I didnt like that. I thought this was a universal type of bike rack. Im wondering if I must send it back or could i use the lip where the license plate goes instead, so that the rack would be horizontal to the ground or perhaps slightly higher? I did succeed in doing this. I would just want to be sure it was a safe option.

It doesn't look like the Hollywood Racks Express 3 is designed to fit your 2014 Hyundai Accent and while it isn't a truly universal fit, it does fit a large number of small passenger cars. As with most things there are certain ways that you might be able to make it work, but it's probably ill-advised and would void any type of warranties or protections that Hollywood Racks may offer in the event of your bikes being damaged during transport. Since the rack may slip out of place while carrying bikes, you may find that the workaround you've come up with won't hold up to the rigors of driving.

Taking that into consideration, I'd recommend looking at the Saris Guardian 3 Bike Rack # SAR43FR which is designed to fit both the hatchback and sedan model 2014 Hyundai Accent. Saris is the industry standard when it comes to trunk racks; they pioneered the first trunk mounted racks back in the 70's and have been on the cutting edge of this product class ever since. This rack has the same 3 bike capacity of the Hollywood Express and also folds up easily for storage in the same manner.
