It sounds like you need to install a 7-way trailer connector on your 2013 BMW X3 and if that is the case, you will need more than just the Adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole Vehicle End Trailer Connector part # 30717 unless you already have an existing 4-way trailer connector. The Adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole Vehicle End Trailer Connector as the title states is just an adapter for an existing 4-way trailer connector already installed. The 4-way trailer connector you referenced on the adapter will plug into the one on the vehicle which operates the brake, turn, and running light circuits on a trailer. If you don't already have one you can use the ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness w/ 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector and Installation Kit # 119250KIT which we do have a sample install video on.
The Adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole Vehicle End Trailer Connector does not come with the rest of the wires and breakers that you need to run to your battery and the brake controller so if you need this as well then you can use the 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat part # ETBC7 instead as it has all of this.
