Does Trailer Brake Controller Require Specific Wiring Harness

Question:
Reese trailer controller p/n 120065-148. Installed trailer brake controller. Two red dots are always on the screen haven’t seen them turn off. Truck already had the wiring harness so I spliced the wires to the controller since the harness was for a different controller. Could this be the problem ?

Yes, you have identified the issue as brake controllers are designed to work with their specific harness and not spliced into them, assuming you have the plug-in option. We do not carry the brake controller you have so I am not familiar with it, but for example on your 2003 Chevy Silverado if you had the Tekonsha PowerTrac Electronic Brake Controller # 39523 you would need to use the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter # 3015-P.
