I just really need to make sure this hitch would work best for our car. We are pulling a cargo trailer from Idaho to California! Please help ensure us that this part will work perfectly. Thank you.

For your 1998 Audi A6 the Curt hitch part # C11166 is a confirmed fit and would be the best option. This was custom designed to fit the frame of your vehicle and was designed with light towing in mind.
You'll also need trailer wiring too which the best option for that is the Tekonsha kit part # 119178KIT which has the most reliable converter box of the available kits. Then for a ball mount you'd want the part # C45521 with hitch balls # A-82 for a 2 inch ball or part # A-80 for a 1-7/8 inch ball.
