If the jaws on the Curt A Series 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch like # C16541 are out of sync and are not gripping the king pin properly you can follow the procedure shown on page 4 of the linked instructions. The section of the instructions that cover this also appear in the linked image taken from that page.
The jaw system has a fixed half and a moving half and the procedure described corrects the position of the moving section of the jaw. This out-of-sync condition is caused by the locking bar being in between its fully retracted and fully extended positions. You will make sure the flip lock is hanging free in its clockwise rotated position and then pull the lock bar to its full extended position, then release. The jaws will re-time themselves.
